CouthIT
based in Hyderabad, India has said it has developed two implementations of Microsoft RT Audio codec for real-time deployment by end- customers, and is positioned to provide developed implementations to RT Audio licensees on the TI C55x, TI C64x+, ARM9E and Cortex platforms.

CouthIT, a provider of optimized speech, audio and video codecs claimed it was among the first companies to get a development license of the RT Audio codec from Microsoft, to develop optimized implementations of the codec on multiple DSPs and help OEMs and design houses employ the Microsoft Unified Communications solution.

Krishna Nagarajan, chief executive officer, CouthIT, said: "The collaboration between CouthIT and Microsoft on IP telephony solutions will help address the needs of companies building solutions using the Microsoft Unified Communications platform. We are now keen to enable OEMs and design houses achieve the desired optimization in CPU and memory footprints to support the RT Audio codec so that the precious processor resources can be freed up for other critical, resource-intensive software blocks."

CouthIT is a preferred TI Third Party Network member and a Connected Community member of ARM, providing highly efficient multimedia codecs on their processors.

The Microsoft RT Audio codec is the preferred codec for Microsoft Unified Communications platform that is designed for real-time two way VoIP applications.

It operates on both narrow band speech (sampled at 8 Khz) and wide-band speech (16 Khz) samples. The encoder optionally includes forward error correction (FEC) block embed error recovery data in the bit-stream.

The decoder has an optional jitter-control module that provides active management of jitter and frame erasures. CouthIT provides services in the design and development of DSP software solutions for multimedia applications.
