Infinera expands Indian operations
The company is growing operations here and opening a sales office

Infinera has said it expanding its research and development (R&D) centre and sales office in Bangalore.

Tom Fallon, CEO, Infinera Corporation, said the Bangalore team has played a pivotal role in the development of the company's DTN platform. “We are expanding the Bangalore R&D centre and sales office because of the market opportunity and expertise available here. Innovation is at the core of our business and R&D is a priority. The Bangalore R&D centre is the company’s second largest following the U.S. headquarters in Sunnyvale,” he said.

Industry research indicate that India’s Internet traffic will reach 1.1 exabytes per month in 2015, up from 121 petabytes per month in 2010 while mobile data traffic will reach 339 petabytes per month, up from 3 petabytes. Rising broadband speeds will play a key role in driving Internet traffic growth, leading global service providers to deploy solutions that efficiently scale their optical networks.  Infinera’s solutions enable service providers to scale their networks, simplify operations and efficiently transport an array of broadband services.

This centre generated several of Infinera’s patents. Beyond the R&D centre, we also offer a demonstration lab for our customers in the region,” said Utkarash Rai, vice president, Infinera India.

“As the Indian market is growing rapidly, it made sense for us to open a sales office in Bangalore to support our customers,” said Subhendu Sarkar, senior sales director, Infinera India.
