    Graphics SoC supports APIX data transport
    Automotive DesignLine
    MUNICH, Germany — With a SoC based on the combination of an ARM 32-bit core and a Coral PA graphics processor, Fujitsu Microelectronics Europe (FME) targets automotive applications requiring 2D and 3D graphics.

    The MB86R02 is equipped with a dual APIX serial gigabit interface. The APIX technology is optimized for automotive environments in particular with respect to its EMC properties. Target applications are, among others, dashboard graphical systems, head-up displays, integrated navigation systems and rear-seat entertainment. With the product rollout at hand, FME extends its 'Jade' graphics products line.

    Both APIX interfaces can be configured as receiver or transmitter. The processor integrated on the SoC, an ARM926EJ-S, features a Jazelle Java accelerator as well as a memory management unit. The Coral PA graphics engine includes a 2D/3D rendering unit and a floating point geometry processor. The functions supported include video upscaling and downscaling, brightness, contrast and color saturation conrol, alpha blending and anti-aliasing.

    The Coral PA unit supports two displays with different content at various resolutions between 320 x 240 pixel and 1280 x 768 pixel. Both the ARM and the Coral PA unit share an embedded memory of up to 128 MByte. Samples will be available along with an evaluation board in Q4/2009.
