Commex 10GbE NIC enables multiple processing cores to be content aware
    CommsDesign
Specifically targeting the data center's ability to best utilize servers and process packets accurately and fast. Commex Technologies Ltd. introduced its Vulcan SE HT6210 HTX-based content aware dual-channel 10GBE network interface card (NIC) for the HP ProLiant DL785 G5 server.

The NIC connects to the network via two ports of 10GbE directly to the ProLiant G5 server and enables a wide range of network-centric applications. The Vulcan SE enables customers to take advantage of I/O and throughput capabilities, eliminating bottlenecks, and reducing system cost.

The Deep Packet Inspection technology of the Vulcan SE leverages content awareness to distribute and balance network data processing amongst the multiple processing cores. The Vulcan SE content-aware dual-channel 10GbE NIC leverages the AMD Direct Connect Architecture by connecting directly to a Quad-Core AMD processor via a 16-lane HyperTransport interface, resulting in true multicore scalability of network traffic performance.

According to Commex, the Vulcan SE delivers performance significantly better than that of competing 10GbE NICs (they'll even provide benchmark results upon request). Such performance is highly desirable for server applications including: database transactions, Web caching, IT security, application delivery, bandwidth management, high-traffic Web, financial services, and media streaming.

"The technology in Vulcan 6210 card is first step that involves a content-aware router monitoring all traffic through a server, and delivering data packets as quickly as possible to where they are needed," said Zeev Rivlin, Commex Vice President, Marketing and Business Development. Performance improvement varies application to application from a gain of 30% to as much as 300%. We do not require that changes be made to the application software to handle the traffic," added Rivlin.

The Commex Vulcan SE NIC has been extensively tested in HP's Roseville, California, USA Labs on the HP ProLiant DL785 G5 server. The Commex Vulcan SE HT6210 Network Interface Card is currently available to customers for use with HP ProLiant DL785 G5 as well as HP ProLiant DL165 G5 servers.
