    IWave launches Intel Atom-based Q7 COM module

    IWave Systems, based in Bangalore, has announced its iW-Q7 COM module an Intel Atom-powered, low power, high end mobile computing Off-the-shelf COM module based on the industry latest Qseven form factor. The module is suitable for mobile and battery-powered applications and can be easily integrated for any handheld and ultra mobile computing applications.

    The module provides a set of high and low speed interfaces. IWave chose the Intel Atom as it is a highly integrated mobile computing solution for low power, small form factor, and embedded mobile computing platforms.

    Some of the advantages of Intel Atom are that it supports x86 architecture, is fully PC compatible and can take advantage of the PC hardware and software infrastructure, the company said. It has a smaller footprint and is an ultra-low power, fanless solution at 4.4W at 1.6GHz CPU speed.

    It is at least twice as fast as any ARM11 or ARM Cortex product available today and it supports up to 2GB RAM. With increased I/O it means 8 USBs, 2xPCIe, 3xSDIO/MMC high resolution display.

    Advanced features include hyper-threading technology to deliver 15-30% higher performance on threaded applications, is based on Intel Virtualization technology, has C6 low power state for reduced power consumption and ultra low power integrated graphics with 2D and 3D HW accelerator.

    Any market that requires low power, very small form factor embedded applications and high end mobile computing devices are its target. Still, the major focus market segments are UMPC/MID, digital signage, in-vehicle infotainment, health care, navigation systems, kiosks and PoS, industrial automation and others.

    The Q7 motherboard is priced at 1K volume Atom 1.1GHz -1GB RAM " $200, Atom 1.6GHz " 1GB RAM " $250, Atom 1.1GHz -2GB RAM " $400 and Atom 1.6GHz " 2GB RAM " $450

    The Q7 module is the Atom eMenlow based mother board, which can be used to develop any small form-factor mobile computing devices by adding a carrier board/IO Board. As this is an x86 based platform, this can be easily integrated with the carrier board without any hardware/software integration issues, which in turn, the company said, will help end-customers achieve their time-to-market.
