Tiny digital environment sensor goes to market
    Industrial Control Designline
Sensirion has shipped thousands of samples of its SHT21 digital humidity and temperature sensor in 2009 and will start volume production next month.

The SHT21 has the sensor chip encapsulated in a DFN 3-0 package. With this encapsulation the chip is completely over-molded, except the humidity sensing area.

The components size is reduced to a 3x3-mm footprint with 1.1-mm height.

Over-molding provides protection against aging and ambient impact, such as condensation and harsh environments, and yields long-term stability.

Its has a I2C digital interface. Analog output modes (such as PWM) are available on request.

It consumes power in the range of 3µW at normal operation.

    Typical sensor accuracy is ±2% RH over 20 to 80% RH and ±0.3 °C over 25 to 42 °C.

The SHT21 has been qualified in accordance with automotive standard AEC-Q100.

Free samples of the SHT21 can be ordered.
