NXP offers power chip for CFLs
    Power Management DesignLine
NXP Semiconductors has introduced a 600 V power IC that can drive and control dimmable CFL applications up to 21 W, and features 3 integrated switches.

NXP claims the UBA2028 to have the highest level of integration available on the market today.

With the driver IC CFL lifetimes can be extended beyond 15,000 hours.

Key features of the UBA2028 include:

  • Two internal 600 V, 3 (max) MOSFETs
  • For steady state currents, support up to 280 mA
  • For ignition currents, support up to 1.5 A
  • Adjustable preheat time and current
  • Advanced dimming (Phase-cut and 1-10 V)
  • Current-controlled operation
  • Single ignition attempt
  • Adaptive non-overlap time control and integrated bootstrap diodes
  • Integrated high-voltage level-shift function
  • Capacitive mode protection, lamp failure detection
  • Power-down in case of lamp failure
  • Reduced board space with the SO20L package, which has a typical Rth(j-a) of 75 K/W

The NXP UBA2028 is available with a complete application kit including samples, datasheet, application note, and demonstration board.
