Speaking at the Freescale Technology Forum in Bangalore on Wednesday, Freescale chairman Rich Beyer said the company is set to ride the post-PC era.

With its interest payout decreasing and debt being reduced through the funds generated by its initial public offering (IPO), Freescale is poised to pour money into research and development into innovation and better placed to take advantage of the post-PC era, which is now very much on the landscape.

“Semiconductor companies now need to become much more systems-oriented. We are into an era of connected intelligence where data is ubiquitous and these devices (such as tablets) will conform to us and not have us conform to them, as in the case of the personal computer. Freescale is leading the effort of semiconductor companies to show better performance, sensing and power efficiency,’ said Rich Beyer, chairman and CEO, Freescale Semiconductor.

Speaking at the Freescale Technology Forum in Bangalore on Wednesday (August 24), Beyer said the post-PC era is marked by the change from content creation to content consumption, which though puts service providers in a somewhat difficult position as they need to change their equipment before their costs get fully amortized.

Automotive, medical, smart grid, wireless and smart mobile devices are all markets that are opening up and Freescale is readying itself even more to take advantage of the opportunities these emerging market
segments are throwing up, he said.
