Orb Energy awarded first runner up in the Zayed Prize

The Prize is for individuals, small businesses and NGOs that have made significant contributions to the future of energy.

Orb Energy, a solar energy provider based in Bangalore, has bagged the first runner up in the NGO / SME category of the Zayed Future Energy Prize, winning a cash prize of US $1 million. One of the most prestigious global awards for renewable energy, the Zayed Future Energy Prize is awarded annually to large corporations, individuals, small businesses and non-governmental organizations that have made significant contributions to the future of energy.

Orb received this award in recognition of its efforts towards creating a significant impact on India ’s energy landscape, by building a unique distribution model for solar energy that is helping to power Indian homes, enterprises, and entire villages.

The company began operations in India 5 years ago, and now has more than 100 branches covering 5 states including Karnataka, Andhra, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Maharashtra , with a work force of more than 550 people.

Orb Energy has installed over 30,000 systems, and sees itself doubling this figure over the next two years. CEO Damian Miller said the prize money will be used to  expand its base  to 200 branches over the next 18 months.
