e-con launches lens camera solution

e-con Systems announces a custom lens camera board for the Gumstix Overo series of computer on modules

e-con Systems has launched the e-CAM50_CU35x_GSTIX, a 5 Mega pixel fixed focus custom lens camera solution for Gumstix Overo, the OMAP-based computer on modules. This e-CAM50_CU35x_GSTIX is small form-factor pluggable camera solution and houses the e-CAM50_CU5642_MOD, a camera module featuring Omnivision’s OV5642 image sensor inside with M12P0.5 S-mount lens holder. 

Compared to earlier models of e-con’s camera boards for Gumstix Overo COMs, the e-CAM50_CU35x_GSTIX gives customers a choice of
choosing the lens from a wide variety of lenses based on their application. This

camera solution is targeted for applications like low vision products, OCR and video conferencing among others.

“With the increased image processing applications in the embedded products, the requirements for a customized camera is increasing steadily. The small form-factor custom lens camera module for Gumstix Overo shall be the right solution for our customers who want to choose their own lens to meet the requirements of Field-of-View, Spectral filtering, Magnification, IR filtering and the like, said Ashok Babu, President, e-con Systems. 

The e-CAM50_CU35x_GSTIX connects to the Gumstix Overo Computer on module via a 27pin flex cable. It interfaces to all the four variants of the Gumstix Overo such as the Earth COM (OMAP3503), Overo Air COM (OMAP3503), Overo Water COM (OMAP3530) and Overo Fire COM (OMAP3530), via this flex cable.

e-con Systems provides the V4L2 Linux drivers with sample applications and this camera module solution is easy to integrate for both prototyping and production. For prototyping, customers can buy the camera module along with the e-con carrier board. For volume production, customers can directly integrate the e-CAM50_CU5642_MOD in their carrier board to the Gumstix Overo and e-con Systems shall provide schematics and integration assistance.
